Include account books and miscellaneous receipts, 1811-1856, kept by Charles Yancey for his three Buckingham County, Va., plantations, including slave lists and bills of sale. Also include diaries, 1861-1862, of C.S.A. Sargeant Z. Lee Gilmer, describing camp life at Centreville, Va., camp, his election as company sergeant, his voting in Confederate elections, James P. Holcombe's political ideas, a slave in camp, New Orleans soldier's funeral, liquor in the camp, and execution of two soldiers from New Orleans "Tiger" Battalion. Topics also include Bull Run battlefield, re-enlistment, furlough home, opinion of General Beauregard, rumors concerning status of militia, and Jefferson Davis' inauguration. Gilmer also comments on rivalry of Confederate generals, describes the battles of Mechanicsville and Gaines Mills, his wounding and removal from the battlefield, burial of dead at Richmond, his convalescence in Richmond, and return to Charlottesville, and an encounter with a Union soldier at Gaines Mills. Also include map, 18 December 1861, of the Confederate encampment at Centreville, drawn by James L. Daniel, Co. B ("Albemarle Rifles"), 19th Virginia Regiment.
